TRAUMA

Purpose: To initiate and expedite care from triage for all MEDcare patients based on
presenting symptoms and agreed upon guidelines.


Common presenting symptoms sets include:

Pain
Known injury
Swelling
Redness
Limited range of motion


Procedure:

1. Place in exam room. Undress to reveal area of trauma and place in gown.
2. Obtain UPT in female of child-bearing age.
3. Obtain x-ray of affected area.
4. Apply ice or heat and elevate.



Orders:
UPT
Xray

Additional Considerations:
If injury occurred in <24 hours, apply ice
If injury occurred in >24 hours, apply heat
