Learning Experience 15- Job Application: Students consider the knowledge

gathered from the zoo excursion and apply it to a real life scenario.

Estimated Timing: 45 minutes

Lesson Objectives:
Consider vocabulary for reader: WC6 i
Making comparisons between texts: VR6 iv

Student Experiences:

1. Debrief with students about the excursion to the zoo and link to the job of
the zookeepers and role of the zoo.
2. Discuss the importance of planning and then proofreading their writing.
3. Students are to imagine they have just finished school and are applying
for a zookeeper job at Australia Zoo (Australia Zoo, 2014).
4. The application must be persuasive and contain extended knowledge of
job requirements.
Include:
a. Name and age
b. Interests relating to animals/ prior work experience with
companies or organisations
c. What they know about the work of the zoo in protecting
endangered animals
d. Demonstrate an understanding of the job of a zookeeper
e. What they could bring to the job (attributes)
5. Students read their applications to a partner and discuss the similarities
and differences in persuasive language and information choices.
6. Discuss with the class information that they deemed essential in including
in the application.
