Learning Experience 16- Legislation activity: Consider more formal forms of
writing and express logical recommendations.
Estimated time: 60 minutes

Classroom Organisation: Independent student work and pair work.
1. Create a law that would serve as protection and assist in the reappearance of endangered animal species. 2. In pairs, students will create a list of vocabulary (with definitions) that they think they will need to know and use in the creation of their law governing animal species in Australia (Bjork, n.d.). 3. Write the text as if you are presenting the importance of such a law to the Australian public on national television. Include: a. Name of the law b. The purpose of the law c. The regulations and specifics of the law d. The positive result that is hoped to be apparent in 5 years. 4. Assign students to their previous partner. The students will read their speech to their partner and afterwards provide each other with two warm feedbacks (good) and one cool feedback (could improve for next time) on the language and structure of the text. 5. To conclude, show the students the EPBC Act 1999 fact sheet released by the Australian Government: Department of the environment (2013) and discuss the concepts and reasoning that is presented and how this compares to the students.
