FM 594 Advanced Feed Mill Learning Experience

A hands-on learning experience is available to meet the training needs of students and
professionals in the feed manufacturing industry. This course will build upon the management,
safety, and operations topics introduced in PO 424 Feed Technology. The course is designed
to give students the opportunity to receive ingredients, grind, mix, and pellet feed using the
latest in feed mill automation technology. Students will watch safety videos, complete training
assignments, conduct audits, and manufacture feed.

Feed Mill Projects:
1) Students must determine a critical control point (CCP) in either the receiving,
batching, or pelleting process, create a standard operating procedures for
monitoring the CCP for a one month period (min 10 observations). A report
must be submitted outlining the results of CCP measurements.
2) Students must identify a training topic in the feed mill, design a training
program, and conduct the training for the operators.
3) Students must track a nutrient (moisture or protein) in a finished feed or
ingredient over a one month period (min 10 observations).

GRADUATE TUITION AND FEES: $227 for N.C. Residents and $436 for others.
