Lesson 6: Discussion of a Narrative.

Lesson Objective: ACARA - English code/s (ACELA1525) (ACELT1800) (ACELY1709) QCCA- Literacy indicators code/s VR6 vi WC6 vi ix Adjustments/modifications: Colour coding sheet. Extending activity: Write a narrative from the point of view of Pete, the hermit crab. Then draw a picture.
Classroom Organisation: Teach led lesson, whole class discussion and individual student working and class sharing.
Resources/Materials: Short narrative story, sheet. Colour coding sheet. Questions on narrative o What is a narrative? o What type of language is used, when writing a narrative?
Learning Experiences: 1. Inform students the following is formation of a narrative. And that the research that we were doing in previous lessons will form their own narrative on an immigrants/refugees journey to Australia. 2. Class discussion of a narrative. Ask students questions. 3. Show students the example of a narrative (on white board) show title first and get students predict, what the story is about. 4. Students are then given narrative sheet to start lesson. 5. Once the narrative is readout aloud, ask students if they can answer questions on a narrative (Introduction, dilemma, resolution etc). 6. Students are then to break down the narrative, using the Colour coding sheet to highlight nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives etc. (individual working) 7. Once students have done this, they are to rewrite the narrative, adding extra information to make it better. 8. Extension used for early finishers. 9. Remind students there is a whole class sharing at the end, to share their new narrative.
