It's October and that means scary costumes, pumpkin carving, and the
ESC Rocky Horror Picture Show! For those of you who do not know,
Rocky Horror is a live, interactve play that is sure to get you up of of
your seat and having a great tme. This year, Rocky Horror will be held in
the Assembly Room in the William Pit Union. Showtme is Tuesday, Oc-
tober 28th @ 8 PM; doors open at 7 PM. We have 500 tckets to give out
at the door, frst come frst serve. We will also be giving out popcorn and
prop bags to be used during the show. There will be a cash box for dona-
tons; ALL proceeds will go to the United Way Foundaton. So come out
for a FREE, spectacular show that will keep you entertained all evening!

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
Positon engineers as global leaders, building
a beter quality of life
ASCE has already had two general body meetngs and several competton team
meetngs for Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge, among others. Thank you to all 86

Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW)
This month, ESW-Pit will be hostng Anthony Stewart, CEO & Director of DECO Resources
LLC. Stewart will be speaking on Thursday, October 9th, at 7:00pm in room G30 of Bene-
dum Hall. There he will be discussing his sustainability consultng frm and several projects
theyre currently taking on. DECOs projects range from community to energy and address
sustainable practces every step along the way. For additonal informaton concerning

Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
The worlds largest professional
associaton for the advancement of technology.
Pit IEEE is the student chapter of the Insttute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, open to all
ECE and CS students! This month we will be having meetngs on October 1, October 15, and October 29 at
7:00 in 226 Benedum Hall. Keep an eye out for events happening this month, including a game night, mov-
ie night, pumpkin carving and study sessions. Orders for ECE quarter-zip sweatshirts are due by October
17, and we will be collectng $40.00 in cash or check before seminars, at meetngs, and on the Ground
foor of Benedum on October 17.

Phi Sigma Rho will be having a bake sale on Thursday, October 30th in

Engineers Without Borders (EWB)
The University of Pitsburgh Engineers Without Borders Student Chapter hosted our frst Panther
Run 5k last month in Schenley Park. Our top fnishers, Ryan Heckman and Hannah Giomacin, (Both Pit
Engineering Students!) fnished with tmes of 17:09 and 26:22 respectvely.
This month we are gearing up to send 5 students to the Engineers Without Borders Natonal Con-
ference in Reston, Virgina. This Engineering freshman, Katrina Weinmann received a Northeast Regional
scholarship to atend the natonal conference this month.
We are currently looking for project mentors and sponsors. If interested

SCHOLARSHIPS
Congratulatons to Stephanie Cortes, who earned a scholarship through Societal SWE!

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)
Thank you to everyone who came out to our frst General Body Meetng/
cookout as well as those who came to the Calfrac informaton session. The
event went very well and the turnout was excellent. Our next General Body
Meetng will be held on Wednesday, October 1st, where electons for next
years ofcer positons will be held. We have a busy month coming up in Oc-
tober. On October 1st, ExxonMobil is coming in for an informaton session, and Schlumberger and Halli-
burton are coming for informaton sessions onOctober 13th and 14th, respectvely. On October 6th and
7th, Carbo Ceramics will be hostng a training session on FracPro which is a sofware commonly used in
the upstream oil and gas industry for the purposes of fracture analysis, design, and modeling. Then,
on October 8th, they will be hostng an informaton session focused on the company as well as the hy-
draulic fracturing process. OnSaturday, October 18th, we will be partcipatng in a tour hosted by Vulcan
Oilfeld Services. On this tour, we will visit the Drake Well (which is the frst commercial oil well). Afer
that, we will visit a well site serviced by Vulcan. Thank you to all of our members partcipaton at our
General Body Meetngs and events. We are looking forward to a busy and excitng rest of the year.
Theta Tau ()
Pitts professional engineering fraternity
Theta Tau is heading to Boys and Girls on Oct. 22nd for our monthly visit from 4-6 PM and
5-7 PM. We will help the kids with homework and afer school actvites.

Triangle Fraternity
Engineers, Architects, and Scientists
On the weekend of September 27
th
, 2014, the Brothers of Triangle Fraternity traveled
to Laurel Hill State Park for their semesterly Brotherhood Retreat. They spent the
weekend remembering what it means to be a Brother, and what Triangle personally
means to them. The retreat started with actvites that compared their individual values with those of Tri-
angle, and ended with the premier of a Member Development program. The Brothers had an amazing
tme camping in the woods, and came back to Pit ready to tackle the rest of the semester!

Triangle hostng its "Tour of Duty" philanthropy event
When: Saturday October 18th, 12 pm - 2 pm
Where: Soldiers and sailors
For: Wounded Warrior Program
Cost: $20 for teams of 2-4 people
Details: Its an amazing race style event where partcipants
will solve riddles that will lead them throughout Oakland.
The team that completes all of the riddles frst will have
$75 donated to the charity of their choice
