Summary Online Learning Experience This hybrid course on genetics is structured into four modules and is focused on ensuring that students recognize how biological traits are passed on to successive generations. As well as, explaining the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting specic traits. These are the Georgia standards that will be the focus of the course. The learning outcomes for each module are as follows in the table below. Module 1 Structure and Function of DNA Module2 Transcription and Translation Module 3 Genetic Mutations Module 4 Mendels Law List three important events that led to understanding the structure of DNA. Explain the relationship between DNA, genes, and proteins. Explain the relationship between traits and heredity. Explain how genes and alleles are related to genotype and phenotype. Describe the basic structure of a DNA molecule. Outline the basic steps in making a protein. Describe the experiments of Gregor Mendel. Use the information in a Punnett square. Explain how DNA molecules can be copied. Describe three types of mutations, and provide an example of a gene mutation. Explain the difference between dominant and recessive traits. Explain how probability can be used to predict possible genotypes in offspring. Describe two examples of uses of genetic knowledge. Describe three exceptions to Mendels observations. SUMMARY ONLINE LEARNING EXPERIENCE 3 This class is unique in make up because the school is an international school and is made up of serval nations from around the world. The class is made up of 10# ESL student who receive services and are at the high level of ESL at levels 4 and 5.
