Task 1A Analyse the front cover of a magazine
Masthead: NME is the largest
text on the page. It also has its own font and is in a different colour to the rest of the page. Header: summarises the main bands that will be in the magazine. The bands included in this header are all indie or indie rock. So it shows that the audience would be into indie music. Main cover line/Grab quote: The quote has been ripped from the magazine and placed on the cover to show what the tone and themes of the main interview. Main image: the image is a long shot, however his crouched posture means that you get a more close up look at the model, who happens to be MR Dizzee Rascal. He was used to excite the target audience as he is different to what is usually on the cover. Direct address is also used to involve the audience. The footer lists other bands that appear in the magazine, the use of the plus sign at the beginning of the footer suggests that there is a lot going on in the magazine. Puff: Used to give extra bit of news to readers on the cover, the mention of the band Pavement will excite the target audience. Main sell line: The mention of the artist Dizzee Rascal is used so boldly to bring readers in who are fans of this artist. Rule of thirds is used to ensure that the main model is in a hotspot, particularly on the left side, as this could be the only part of the page that people will see before buying
