Lab's Presentation (Shear Force of A Beam)

This document discusses shear force in beams. It defines a beam as a structural member that is longer than its width and height, which bends when subjected to transverse forces. The objectives are to determine the stresses and strains created in a beam when loaded, by finding the internal forces and couples acting on its cross sections. It notes there are different types of beams based on their support, and different types of loads that can be applied to beams.

WHY STUDY STRESS IN BEAMS?
What are Beams?
A structural member which is long when
compared with its lateral dimensions,
subjected to transverse forces so applied as
to induce bending of the member in an axial
plane, is called a beam.
Objective
When a beam is loaded by forces or
couples, stresses and strains are created
throughout the interior of the beam.

To determine these stresses and strains,
the internal forces and internal couple that
act on the cross sections of the beam must
be found.
