My Definition
My definition;
Tessellation is the repetition of certain shapes in a pattern, which has no
sudden gaps or anything as such. A good figure of Tessellation would
include at least 2 shapes, and might form into a different shape. E.g. the
certain placement of a kite next to a parallelogram and a square could
look almost cube-like.
Examples of tessellation;

M.C. Escher used tessellation in a number of artworks of his. He mainly focused on the
quizzical masterpieces that were designed to confuse, so its no wonder that he would
use tessellation in one of his works. Pictured below is just
that, a tessellation made by M.C. Escher, depicting
repeated, almost tiled faces. Its appropriately named
8 Heads. There are 4 heads that are immediately
clear but the others are not apparent until further
investigation and rotation of the actual paper. It is
also stated that Escher is The father of modern
tessellations. In conclusion, M.C. Escher was to
Tessellation as Vincent Van Gough was to watercolour.
