1. Define what is encompassed in the term information technology.
Information Technology includes the computer technology that allow the processing and
storing information as well as the communication technology that allows the transmission of
information.
2. What are the some of the ways that IT has become pervasive?
In recent years IT became very pervasive and it is serving as a heart to any type of
businesses and organizations. In fact, by the end of the 1990s, the usage of these
technologies became very common around the world. The typical computer for individuals to
use today has graphical icons; touch screen navigation, and preloaded software to access the
Internet. There are some ways that IT has become pervasive.
New ways for businesses to compete
New ways for employees to accomplish their work.
3. What kinds of portable IT helps employees work more efficiently and effectively?
What may interfere with productivity?
There are several resources that are available in market that can help employees with IT
resources:
1. Remote work (This help employees to save commute time and enables
employees work from home/remote)
2. Technology enabled portable gadgets like Laptops, Smart-phones, and Tablets.
(This devices will keep employees connected to the organization and can help in
quick decision making)
3. Wi-Fi Data cards (This can ensure employees always have connectivity to the
Internet on demand)
4. Softwares (There are several softwares available in market which get your job
done in few clicks, this can assist employees save time and focus on critical
items)

Remote work option will enable productivity on one hand on other hand this may impact the
communication/coordination between peers. When there is a need to make any Critical
Decision it is always good be present physically.
4. What kinds of IT can help support teams when team members work at different
locations?
Its quite common these days where team members are geographically located in different
places.
IT technologies such as:
1. Teleconferencing (Entire team can join on to bridge call for discussions)
2. Web conferencing (Visual presentation of what you are doing)
3. Remote access (Any member can access)
4. Video conferencing (This can help you to see the other team members)
5. How have some businesses used the Internet to compete based on low cost,
product/service differentiation, or both?
Computers and communication networks enable companies to compete in two primary ways.
Low Cost: competing with other businesses by being a low-cost producer of a good or a
service.
Differentiation: competing with other businesses by offering products or services that
customers prefer such as product quality or customer service.
6. What kind of a business might choose to have low levels of dependence on IT?
However, many businesses depend on information technology to improve their sales and to
get more profits. The most of the retail businesses highly depend on the information
technology to store their data and to keep track on records. Small-scale businesses may
choose to have low-level dependence on information technology.
7. What three types of IT resources need to be managed well?

The three types of IT resources need to be managed well are Technology Infrastructure,
Human Resources, Business/IT Relationships. Information Technology allows the company
to carry out the functions like information of shares and the position of the business in the
competitive world. Human Resource is one of the most important needs that have to be
managed because it allows the interpersonal skill to schedule, plan and design the IT
resources. Business relationship allows a competitive relationship with the other leading
businesses.
8. What are some examples of newer IT manager roles, and why are they needed today?
Many organizations today have created many new IT manager level positions. They are chief
information officer (CIO), chief executive officer (CEO), chief financial officer (CFO), chief
operating officer (COO), and chief security officer (CSO).
For example, some companies have created a chief security officer (CSO) position to plan for
and monitor compliance with new federal laws and reporting requirements and to ensure the
appropriate investments.
9. For what reasons might an IT manager have a reporting relationship with a CIO as
well as with a senior business manager?
The information officer work closely with the senior business managers and lead the
organization with their technical knowledge to complete the project without any cost
overruns. Senior managers can report to the CIO at emergency risks to ensure the project
success.
