The House on Mango Street Final Project

You are making your own version of a novel, similar to The House on Mango Street.
Part 1. Journal entries: Choose 4-5 topics/categories from the worksheet Its All About Me. ALSO choose 4-5
memorable events from your life to write about (an interesting/weird day, a party, a family gathering, a school day, a
sad day, something that scared you, etc). You should have 8-10 journal entries when you are finished.
Each journal must be typed on its own sheet of paper.
Give each journal entry a title (similar to the stories in the novel).
Each journal must focus on ONE DAY!
All journals must be at least 3 paragraphs. Feel free to write more when appropriate.
You must have a good introduction, your body must have details, and you must have a conclusion for each
journal.
Be sure it has one inch margins, and is at least 12 pt. font. If you do not have access to a computer or a
printer, you can make arrangements with me to type or print it before or after school in the writing lab.
Make sure everything is spelled correctly. Each misspelled word will receive a deduction of 5 points.
Correct grammar counts too!!!
2. The Its All About Me pages must also be in pen (blue or black), no cross outs, no misspellings. Dont rush
to do it at the end!

Book Set Up
Place all the papers in a folded sheet of large construction paper or your own cover (do NOT use a binder).
Design the front cover of your book with an illustration, title, and your name as the author.
Put together the 8-10 journals
Its All About Me ages
On the back of the book, summarize your story and write several comments from professional sources
praising your book.
Bind your book together.
Your book will be graded on the following criteria:
Front Cover with your Title, authors name, some kind of illustration
8-10 journals with titles and 3 or more paragraphs each
Back Cover with professional reviews
Typed with one inch margins
Book neatly/creatively bound
Cross-outs or misspelled words, written in pencil (-25pts)

-5 points for each mistake

This book will count as 3 grades. You can earn a maximum of 135 points x 3 grades. This final book will
be due right after Thanksgiving. That gives you 4 weeks to complete it. Dont wait till the last minute!!!
