Projectilelab 2

The students conducted an experiment to investigate projectile motion by measuring how far a marble travels when rolled off a launch pad. They measured the initial height of the marble and distance traveled, recording multiple trials to collect data. Using equations of motion, they analyzed the data to determine values for time and velocity during the marble's flight. They concluded the experiment helped demonstrate how velocity and distance are related for a projectile.

Investigating projectile motion

Given the materials needed, create a lab where you demonstrate your understanding of
projectile motion. Your final product is an addition to your Weebly as a lab report.

Objective
Our objective is to find out how far a projected marble travels by using variables Vx and
Dy in a given amount of seconds. Vx being the initial velocity; Dy being the distance
from the floor to the marble.
Materials
*a marble

*launch pad
*tape
*meter stick
*lab quest

Procedure

5.

Set up materials
Roll marble down launch pad
Measure the Dy
Record data and repeat
Once all the data use equations to find the time and Dx

During your experiment:

After your experiment:

Since the ramp that the marble rolled off of was constant throughout the whole
experiment, and we used the same marble, its velocity was always around the same spot
each time. The height of the table to the ground also stayed the same, so the time it
took to reach the ground was also the same.

Conclusion
We chose to do this lab because we wondered how velocity and distance
affected one another. We set up our lab and then after recording data we used
mathematical equations to find the rest of the parts of a projectile. At first we
plugged the wrong labquest into the wrong part of the grapher. This caused it
to have trouble graphing our velocity. The teacher helped us set up our supplies
the right way, and we continued without any other problems.
