Unit Goals and Objectives:
Students can make the connection of the events that happened at the end of World War I that set the stage for the fighting to begin again in World War II.
Students will be able to identify totalitarian leaders from this period and understand how each came to power, the country they ruled, and the form of
government in place. Students will be able to answer the essential question of how World War I cased World War II, and be able to demonstrate this through a
research paper. Students will develop a geographical understanding of the regions of Europe and world and be able to identify important historical battles and
countries on a map. Students will make connection to the present day on how these two wars are still affecting the world today.
Students will be able to comprehend primary documents, develop theses from these, and defend their arguments using evidence. Students will develop and
improve their writing, researching, and communication skills. Students will use 21st century skills to collaborate, critically think, and communicate their ideas
in group work and group discussions. Students will gain a basic understanding of how to read, write, and research to help them in this class, and prepare them
for future college classes.
Unit Summary:

In this unit, students will explore the mistakes made at the end of World War I, and how these mistakes lead to the rise of totalitarian governments and World
War II. Students will be using a plethora of resources (books, videos, internet searches, etc.) to help them answer the essential question of how World War I
caused World War II. Students will be utilizing learning tools such as graphic organizers, webercise (internet scavenger hunt), short research papers, videos, and
group projects to guide their learning for this section of history. Students will leave with a thorough understanding of the effects of World War I, totalitarian
governments, and the causes and consequences of World War II. World War I and World War II are vital to understanding how the world developed into the
world we know today.
