Lesson Plan

This 11th grade math lesson plan aims to teach students about vertical, complementary, and supplementary angles. The lesson will discuss definitions and examples of these angle types, have students identify and provide their own examples, and present the material using a Prezi presentation with guided practice examples. Students will work in groups at stations to determine angle measures and identify common characteristics, and independently complete a worksheet identifying complementary and supplementary angles for assessment.

Overall Goal of Lesson: Students will measure and identify vertical, complementary, and supplementary
angles.
Instructional Objectives:
We will discuss definitions and examples of complementary, supplementary, and vertical angles.
Students will identify and give their own examples of complementary, supplementary, and vertical
angles.
Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) &
Key Vocabulary: Adjacent angle, complimentary
ELPS: (M.1) B, C: The student is expected to: (B) angles, supplementary angles, intersect, and
use multiple approaches (algebraic, graphical, and
vertical angles
geometric methods) to solve problems from a
variety of disciplines; and (C) select a method to
solve a problem, defend the method, and justify the
reasonableness of the results.
Higher Order Questions: Describe the difference between vertical and adjacent angles.
Why is it important to know complementary and supplementary angles?
Student Activities: Group students into equal groups by counting off. Have students work through
stations determining the measure of angles and see what the angles have in common.
Present lesson through Prezi using guided practice along the way.
Modifications/ELL Strategies: Curriculum Anticipatory Activity for Lesson: Review angles by asking
is already modified.
students to locate right, obtuse, acute, and straight angles.
Time Allotted
Teacher Input/Lesson Activity: Give students vocabulary for lesson and have them complete

using geometry book. Discuss completed vocabulary. Present lesson using Prezi. Give
examples of each type of angle while doing so.
