Wordles are word clouds where the frequency of words in provided text is represented by font size - more common words appear smaller. To create a Wordle, users copy text, paste it on the Wordle website, and manipulate font, layout and colors. Create a Wordle.

A Wordle about Wordles

Wordles are word cloudspictures made up from text that you provide (such as a document or
website). Above is an example of a Wordle. The more frequently a word appears in the text, the larger
it will be in the Wordle. Common words such as a, the, to, at, in, etc. are automatically removed by
Wordle, although there is an option to include them. Wordles can be formatted with different fonts,
layouts and colour schemes.

To explore Wordle today:


1. Select the text you wish to make into a Wordle Highlight the text and copy it. Some handy
shortcuts that will speed the copying and pasting process are: Ctrl-A Select All the text in a
document, Ctrl-C Copy, Ctrl-V Paste
2. Go to http://www.wordle.net/create
3. Paste the text into the window, then click Go
4. Wordle is a Java applet. It will load, and then you will see your
Wordle being created. If it doesnt load, it may be that you need
to download Java, which is a free program available at
http://www.java.com/en/
5. Spend some time changing the font, layout and colours using the
menu at the top of the screen. When you are pleased with the
final product, click Open in New Window.
6. The easiest way to save the Wordle is to enlarge the new window to fill the entire screen. Press
the PrtScn key on your keyboard. This grabs a copy of your entire screen, menus and
all. Paste into Word, and use the Crop Tool to remove any unwanted parts from around the
Wordle.

few minutes by others. Occasionally these Wordles may contain inappropriate language or themes.
