Technology Survey Analysis From Lora Williams 1
Technology Survey Analysis From Lora Williams 1
1. In Week 2, you developed an online survey and emailed a link of the survey to the class. At the beginning of Week
3, you should have the responses from your
survey and will prepare an analysis of the responses.
The analysis consists of 2 parts.
1. Prepare an analysis of the responses in a spreadsheet or similar application. If you used an online survey such as
SurveyMonkey please submit the numeric
data you obtained into a spreadsheet. You may use Excel or Numbers for this part of the assignment. (5 points)
2. Develop a written analysis of the responses to your survey questions and their relationship to the question(s) you
were attempting to answer in your original
survey. The written analysis must include graphs generated from the data in the spreadsheet or similar application.
You may use Word or Pages for this part of
the assignment. (5 points)
I have included examples of this assignment the module "Examples of Assignments and Tutorials."
Please save both the spreadsheet and the written analysis, then upload both documents as part of Assignment 3 in
Canvas.
This assignment is due by Sunday, November 9 at 11:59 p.m.
I conducted a survey among the class participants in the UCLA Technology class with a goal of
understanding the current interest in and usage of technology among this population. Seventeen
members of the class filled out the survey. All participants are members of the UCLA Technology in the
Classroom class that agreed to fill out the questionnaire. Demographically, all participants are 25 and
older, and the vast majority (82%) is between 25 and 49 years of age with the remainder 50+ years of
age. Three-quarters of the class is female (75%), with 19% male and the remainder preferring not to
answer.

The vast majority of the survey participants teach in public schools (71%). Teaching in a private
school (18%) is the next most common response, followed by teaching in a charter school (12%). This
appears to roughly follow the proportion of these schools in California, with somewhat more
participants working in charter schools than public or private schools, as compared to the proportion of
these types of schools in California. The sample size of 17 is so small that these differences are not
unexpected and may not be meaningful in terms of the comparing the survey participants to the general
population of teachers. Thos responding to the survey teach all grades:

Not surprisingly, given the nature of this course, the participants are interested in and use
technology. They most often use a projector linked to a computer (63%), followed by student
computers (58%), a smart board (47%) and Multimedia (42%). On average, each respondent uses two
devices.

The majority of the survey participants agreed that technology in the classroom today:
In terms of their own behavior, using technology to collaborate with other teachers, 29% said they did
so many times, 41% said a few times and 29% said never. This could be an area of growth and
opportunity for technology and teachers. Participation in this UCLA course might embolden the
teachers who have not used technology to collaborate with teachers in their own career to now do so.
Teachers are using technology in their classroom in a variety of ways, including:
Most students appear to expect the trends in technology to continue, such as more use of smart phones
and other mobile devices, increased miniaturization and the continued opening of information to the
world.
In summary, the participants of this survey and members of the class on Educational Technology
in the Classroom, are very positive toward technology. They use technology, want to use technology
and expect technology trends to continue in education.
