A Brief History of Great Britain PDF

Celtic tribes settled in Britain around 700 BC, with Iron Age culture and female leaders like Boadicea who fought the Romans. The Romans invaded Britain in AD 43 and controlled southern Britain until 409, establishing roads, towns and converting some to Christianity. After the Romans left, Anglo-Saxon tribes from Germany invaded and settled between 400-600 AD, establishing kingdoms and displacing the Celts. Vikings from Scandinavia then began raiding parts of Britain from the late 8th century, eventually establishing kingdoms in northern and eastern England. The last to invade were the Normans in 1066, led by William the Conqueror who defeated the English king at the Battle of Hastings, establishing Norman control over England.
