Classification: Suitable For All
Classification: Suitable For All
The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) is an organisation that classifies the age
suitability of films. They are an independent organisation, separate from the government,
who have been classifying films and cinema since 1912 (films/DVDs since 1984). They work
for non-profit, only charging for their actual services, and are a trusted, well known film
classification board. Their classifications help protect the public, specifically children, from
harmful material.
Classification
Their classification standards are based on regularly updated guidelines, after a film has
been reviewed it is given a rating shown below.
Parental guidance
Typically, to classify a film it is reviewed by one or two examiners and their decision is
approved by a senior manager. If there is ever a disagreement to the rating of a film then
other members of the company will have to be brought in, even up to the presidential team.
They look at issues such as discrimination, drugs, horror, dangerous and easily imitable
behaviour, language, nudity, sex, and violence when making decisions. The theme of the
work is also an important consideration, considering context, the tone and likely impact of a
work on the potential audience.
I think that our film would get a rating of a 15 due to the harsh, mature themes and violence
within the film that would not be suitable for children.
