Dec 3 Art Lesson

This lesson plan is for a Grade 2 art class where students will create penguin art. The lesson will take place over 90 minutes and will involve three parts: painting a background, cutting out penguin pieces, and gluing the pieces together. To begin, the teacher will show an example penguin art and explain the three steps. Students will then spend 30 minutes painting, followed by 30 minutes cutting out penguin pieces from pre-outlined chalk shapes. In the final 30 minutes, students will glue their cut pieces onto the painted background and add extra accessories like yarn and buttons. The teacher will observe students and ask key questions to check understanding during the process.

LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE A

ED 3501 2012

Learning Activity #1: All of the students will be sitting on the carpet. I will go over what we will be doing today by
holding up an example penguin that is already completed. Explainting that the art project will be completed in three
separate parts; 1. painting, 2. cutting, 3. gluing
Assessments/Differentiation: proving an example for the students to look at will give a visual of what they are supposed to do.
As well as a order list of what they will be doing today in class.

Learning Activity #2: When the painting is drying students will move to cutting out their penguin pieces. This can
be done right after completion of painting their backdrop.
Assessments/Differentiation: The penguin pieces will already be outlined in chaulk so the students only have to cut out the
pieces

Learning Activity #3: The students will glue their penguin together onto their painted backdrop. Yarn for scarfs,
buttons, beaks, eyes, and halts will already be cut out so students only have to glue the pieces onto their penguin to make
it their own.
Assessments/Differentiation: eaxtra accessories for penguins will be provided / cut out already for students to make it easeir to
complete

Closure ( 5 min.):
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: Students have completed their penguin art
Feedback From Students: asking what animal and where it lives in the world
Feedback To Students: If students are having difficulty cutting and gluing pieces, then assist without completely
doing the art project for them
