The Term Which Contains The Variable. Equation. Just Get The Variable by Itself On The Right Side of The Equation Instead of The Left

Solving two-step equations involves isolating the term containing the variable by performing inverse operations, whether the variable appears on the left or right side of the equation. Common mistakes include forgetting to bring down the negative sign when canceling like terms, such as canceling 7 - 7 and failing to write -2x in the resulting equation.

Beginning Equations - Two-Step Equations

I.

When solving the equations in this section, your first step will be to isolate
the term which contains the variable.

II.

Dont be thrown off if the variable appears on the right side of the
equation. Just get the variable by itself on the right side of the
equation instead of the left.

III.

Observe the first step in the following problem:

Make sure that when you cancel the 7 7 on the left side of the above
equation, you bring down a negative 2x. One of the most common mistakes
made (even by veteran Algebra students) would be to forget to bring down
the negative along with the 2x in a situation like this.
