IELTS Task One: (Report Writing)

Word count: at least 150


Time: 2O mins.
You have to write a report based on graphic
information.
Note 1: Brainstorming is not allowed here.
(We write objectively without the use of
our own opinion.)
Kinds of figures in task one:
1. Line graph: (single-line graph, doubleline graph, multiple-line graph)
2. Bar graph/chart: (vertical, horizontal)
3. Pie chart:
4. Table:
5. Process diagram:
(Manufacturing/artificial, Natural)
6. Flow chart:
7. Maps:

Task One Layout:


I. Introduction: (20 30 words)
A. Introductory statement:
a) Mention the exact name of the
graph
b) Use present simple tense (no
matter what the time of the graph
is)
c) Paraphrase the title of the graph:
(Dont copy the title of the figure.)
d) Mention location
e) Mention the X-axis: (shows time)
B. Overall/General Statement: we
mention 1 2 statement so as to write
about the most
striking/distinctive/noticeable feature
of the graph.
Note: Never mention any specific points in
your overview/ overall statement.

Note 2: we normally use simple past to write


an overview/a general statement for the
figure.
II. BODY: (80 100 words)
We write 1 3 paragraphs to compare
and contrast the details of the figure,
i.e. we do in-depth analysis.
Note: If you are given two different
figures, we have to describe them in
SEPARATE paragraphs.
III. CONCLUSION: (20 30 words) we sum
up the global trends.
