Lesson Plan 2

The lesson plan outlines how to teach third grade students about bar graphs through creating and conducting their own surveys to collect data, then using that data to correctly label and plot a bar graph. Students will gain hands-on experience making graphs through independent and group work, and their understanding will be assessed through completed worksheets and participation during class activities and discussions. The lesson aims to help students understand how bar graphs can represent information and be used in other subjects outside of math class.

2.6.3.B: Organize and display data using pictures, tallies, charts, bar graphs and
pictographs.

Objectives:
Given a prompt, the children will create and survey their peers with a question in order
to gather information for a graph.
Given a blank graph, the children will correctly label and input previously collected
information into a bar graph.

demonstrate understanding.
Level 3: Students should verbally explain how to make a bar graph alongside a partner.
Level 5: Students should verbally explain the purpose and process of making bar charts
alongside a partner.

PRESENTATION
