Lab Light

This lab experiment tested how sunlight affects the rate of oxygen production in plants through photosynthesis. The experiment measured oxygen bubble production in a plant underwater at different distances from a light source. It found that doubling the distance between the plant and light reduced oxygen production to one fourth of the amount at the closer distance, showing that light levels directly impact photosynthesis and oxygen production in plants.

Lab-Photosynthesis 0 Production

Introduction: In this lab we will be seeing how the amount of sunlight can affect the rate of
oxygen production in a plant through photosynthesis. We will be doing this by recording a plant
underwater (To see the oxygen being produced) at different distances to see production rate.

Purpose: We will be seeing how the amount of sunlight can affect the rate of oxygen
production in a plant going through photosynthesis.

Materials: Ring stand, Cm ruler, Test tube plant, Test tube, Baking soda, clamp light (Spot
grow 75 Watt), Flex cam, Smartbroad, Timer, Elodea Sp

Method: We placed a plant in a test tube next to a light. Then we record the amount of
oxygen production according to how close the light was. Then we double the distance between
the plant and the light and record once again. Then we repeat the process one more time.

Data (see table):

Data analysis: According to the data it shows that each time we doubled the distance
between the light and the plant that the production of oxygen was one fourth of the amount
before.

Conclusion: In this lab I observed that the production of oxygen through photosynthesis is
affected on the amount of light. As the distance increases the levels of oxygen decrease by
three froths of the original distance showing us that light does effect oxygen production in
plants.
