10 (A) - Power Measure by 2-Wattmeter in 3-Ph.

This document describes an experiment to measure power in a 3-phase circuit using two wattmeters according to Blondel's theorem. The procedure connects loads and wattmeter coils in a 3-phase circuit supplied by a variac. Voltages, currents, and wattmeter readings are recorded under balanced and unbalanced load conditions. Power is calculated as the sum of the two wattmeter readings, and power factor is determined using the wattmeter readings and voltage and current measurements.

NAME OF THE EXPERIMENT: Measurement of Power in Poly-phase

Circuits.
OBJECTIVE : To measure power in 3-phase circuit using two wattmeters.
THEORY: Power measurements in poly-phase circuits using Blondels theorem.
BLONDELS THEOREM : If a network is supplied through n conductors the total
power is measured by summing the readings of n wattmeters so arranged that a current
element of it in each line and the corresponding voltage is connected between that line
and a common point. If the common point is located at one of the lines, then the power
may be measured by (n-1) wattmeters. Power in 3-phase circuit may be measured by

Two Wattmeter Method : Using two-wattmeter method in any two lines, Current coil
being in series with the lines and potential coil having one end connected to line while
other end to a common point, the common point is in the line where no wattmeter coil is
connected.
Power is measured by W W1 W2
The loads may be balanced, unbalanced, resistive, or reactive.

PROCEDURE :
1.
Make connections as per the circuit diagram shown in fig.-1.
2. Switch ON the power.
3. Gradually increasing the variac in step to obtain desired voltage reading ( say 180V,
200V, 220V ) at voltmeter.
4. Switch ON the lamps as required, to create load on 3 phases, both balanced and unbalanced loads may be put.
5. Note down voltmeters, ammeters and wattmeters readings.
