Web Example

Prepare for the exam by closely analyzing any quotes you have memorized from mock exams. Look at an example analysis and do the same for your own exam quotes, breaking down key words and examining both the language techniques used as well as the effects created. Make sure to link quote analyses to the relevant genre, such as noting how "blood" in gothic literature denotes killing and the transfer of power, as when Macbeth gains the blood and throne of King Duncan. Also consider analyzing examples of a fragmented protagonist's mind.

Teacher comment:
Good breakdown of key words in the quotation. Analyses both the language
technique (e.g. hyperbole, juxtaposition) and effect of each choice.
Target: Link to the gothic genre. The term blood in gothic genre denotes the act of
killing the transfer of blood from one person to another. Thus, Macbeth has gained
the blood of King Duncan, and with it, his power. Look for examples of the gothic
protagonists fragmented mind too. You could continue analysis of the juxtaposition,
showing elements of innocence in Macbeths personality (maybe link to Lady
Macbeth?)
