Paprika is a 2006 Japanese anime film directed by Satoshi Kon that explores the psychology of dreams similarly to the film Inception. The film introduces a machine called the 'DC Mini' that allows therapists to enter their patients' dreams, but one is stolen and used to manipulate dreams. Dr. Chiba, Dr. Shima, Dr. Tokita, and Detective Konakawa work together to stop the chaos caused in people's dreams. While beautifully animated, some plot details may be unclear for audiences new to anime storytelling techniques.

Paprika
(2006)
is
a
Japanese
anime
directed
by
Satoshi
Kon,
who
is
also
known
for
Tokyo
Godfather
and
Perfect
Blue.
Paprika
looks
at
the
psychology
behind
dreams
in
a
similar
way
as
the
Christopher
Nolan
film
Inception
(2010)
does.
The
voice
cast
for
the
English
Dubbed
version
includes
Brian
Beacock,
Cindy
Robinson
and
Paul
St.
Peter.
The
story
starts
with
the
introduction
to
the
new
revolutionary
machine
called
the
DC
Mini
that
allows
a
new
form
of
therapy
that
allows
therapists
to
enter
their
patients
mind
and
see
their
dreams.
How
ever
it
is
quickly
discovered
that
one
of
the
machines
have
been
stolen
and
is
being
used
to
steal
and
manipulate
the
dreams.
Dr.
Chiba
and
her
alter
ego
Paprika,
Dr
Torataro
Shima,
Dr.
Tokita
and
Detective
Toshimi
Konakawa
must
work
together
to
put
an
end
to
the
dream
chaos.
The
film
was
beautifully
animated
and
flowed
from
one
scene
to
the
next
really
well.
At
times
however
some
details
of
the
plot
were
unclear
and
remained
so
if
the
audience
is
new
to
the
Anime
story
telling
and
pace.
Visually
it
is
a
very
beautifully
done
animation
and
full
of
colour.
The
music
was
upbeat
and
rather
interesting.
The
amount
of
imagination
that
went
into
the
story
is
very
clear.
I
would
recommend
this
film
to
people
that
are
used
to
the
pace
of
anime,
not
so
much
the
people
wanting
to
get
into
the
genre
and
are
new
to
the
techniques.
