Design Brief For PT Slabs
Design Brief For PT Slabs
1. Design of all post tensioned slabs shall be carried out in accordance with ACI
318-2008 for gravity loads only.
2. Additional shear and flexural rebar if required due to lateral loads shall be
incorporated after consulting with the Principal Consultant before release of
the shop drawings.
3. The post tensioning work shall be carried out with Bonded Tendon.
4. Post tensioned slabs are indicated in drawings as POST TENSIONED SLAB
or PT SLAB.
5. Concrete grade for all PT Slabs including Drop panels shall be M40.
6. Reinforcement shall be High Yield Strength Deformed bars of grade fy 500.
7. At the time of stressing, the Characteristics Strength of Concrete should not
be less than 25N/Sq.mm.
8. Permissible Tensile stressing limit of Concrete shall be as per clause no
18.3.3 of ACI 318-2008.
9. In each direction, the average value of compressive stress on concrete due to
prestressing section shall not be less than 0.9 MPa nor shall be greater than
3.5 MPa.
10. Limiting values of extreme fibre stresses in compression due to prestressing
shall be in accordance with clause Nos. 18.4.1 & 18.4.2 of ACI 318-2008.
11. Flexural strength design shall be carried out in accordance with clause 18.7.2
of ACI 318-2008.
12. Shear strength design shall be carried out in accordance with the various
clauses under chapter 11.11of ACI 318-2008.
13. Total amount of prestressed and nonprestressed reinforcement in members
with bonded prestressed reinforcement shall be adequate to develop a
factored load of at least 1.2 times the cracking load as specified in clause
18.8.2 of ACI 318-2008.
14. The limiting values of total and incremental deflections shall be as per clauses
23.2 (a) & 23.2 (b) of IS 456-2000 respectively.
