Visual Impairment

Visual impairment is defined by the Alberta Education Code as a mild to moderate visual disability that limits a student's vision enough to interfere with learning. A student with visual impairment may have visual acuity of less than 20/70 in their better eye after correction or a reduced field of vision. Students with visual impairments may feel isolated or stressed due to difficulties picking up social cues or focusing. Teachers should provide students resources like Braille, text-to-speech software, laptops, and scribes to accommodate their needs.
