TYPES OF VALVE.
There are many variations of the few basic types of valves found on plants. The four
main types of valves are as follows:

Block Valves.
These are used to stop and start the flow of fluid. They are always either fully
open or fully closed.

Throttling or Regulating Valves.


These are used to control the amount of flow They can be used in any
position from fully open to fully closed.

Check or Non-Return Valves.


These are used to allow flow in one direction only.

Safety and Relief Valves.


These are used to release excess pressure from the systems.
