Explanation of Design
Interactive White Board:
Many classroom come equipped with this board. It allows the teacher to share documents and
multimedia files from her desktop/laptop with the entire class. These boards also allow students
to become active participants in their lesson. They can share and review key concepts (calendar
math) with their peers using digital stylus. This board can be utilized to document information
being discussed during visible thinking routines.

Audio/Visual Cart:
The purpose of this cart is to store audio recorders and digital camera equipment which can be
used to aid students in completing projects and assignments. Its a mobile cart that is secured
with a lock. This cart is also to be utilized in appropriate visible thinking routines that require the
use of audio/ visual equipment.

Mobile Learning Cart:

This cart is storage for frequently used resources (blocks, crafting items) during assignments and
projects. It may include resources that have been stocked by teacher or from outside donations.
The cart is mobile so it gives the students the flexibility to move it to the location that instruction
is taking place.

Interactive Rug Area:

This is the area that the teacher can gather students to read, sing and discuss concepts and ideas
as a group.

Computer Area:
Space designated for students to research topics at teachers discretion. Also area for students to
work independently on approved websites that increase retention of concepts from instruction.

Student Desks:
Area used for independent work as well as small group collaborative work. Students can work in
think pair groups during visible thinking routines.

This classroom is designed to promote the use of daily integration of technology through
instruction. This particular design includes adequate transitional space for students to freely and
actively engage with their peers and teacher all while using technology. The visible thinking
routines can be supported by the use of technological resources provided as well as the variety of
stations and workspace provided. Thus allowing the teacher to promote transfer and higher order
thinking readily amongst students. To prepare students to utilize all functions of classroom
design the teacher must educate students on correct behavior when handling equipment as well
as fair use/acceptable policy as it relates to content on the Internet. Modeling as well as
frequent/continuous monitoring are essential and necessary.
