Names: Sam Warren Per: 1 Motion Lab: Problem: Hypothesis

Sam Warren conducted an experiment in their Motion Lab class to determine how to measure the speed of an object. They hypothesized that they could measure the speed of a toy car by testing how far it could move in 5 seconds. Using a meter stick, toy car, and clock, they timed how far the car moved in 5 seconds and calculated that it was traveling at 0.76055839 mph. While they effectively measured the speed with limited materials, they felt they could have designed a more scientific experiment to make it easier.

Motion Lab
Problem:
How can you determine how fast an object is moving?
Hypothesis:
I predict that we will determine the speed of the car by testing how far
it can move in 5 seconds.

Materials:
Meter stick, toy car, clock

Procedure:
1. Place car at 0 inches.
2. Start car.
3. Time for 5 seconds.
4. Check how far the car moved.
5. Determine how long it would take to travel 1 mile.
6. Divide that by how far it traveled.
7. That would be how long it would take to travel 1 mile.
Data:
The car traveled 170 cm in 5 seconds
There are 160934 cm in a mile
160934 cm divided by 170 cm equals 947 cm
170 cm in 5 seconds = 0.76055839 mph

Results:
The car moved 0.76055839 mph

Conclusion:
In conclusion, we effectively measured how fast a toy car went with
limited materials. We felt like we did a very good job of staying on task
and not being distracted by others. We felt like we could have also
done a lot of other things better though, such as making a more
sufficient experiment to make it easier on ourselves and make in more
scientific and less mathematic. In conclusion, we did a pretty good job
on calculating the speed of a toy car with limited material.
