Drafting
Grissom, Johnson, New Century
This career academy provides information for students interested in architectural, engineering, and related advanced manufacturing fields. Students develop skills using drafting instruments and gain valuable knowledge using Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) applications. Students acquire visualization, sketching, and CAD drawing skills essential for a wide array of career opportunities in engineering, manufacturing, and construction areas. Students employ higher-level thinking skills for problem-solving techniques relative to Drafting Design Technology. Emphasis is placed on mechanical, architectural, and 3-D design. Students enrolled in this course will also have the rare opportunity to participate in: o Being a part of an international race team that will design and build a GREEN POWER technology race car that will compete against teams in the United Kingdom. o Developing projects for NASA through the HUNCH (High Schools Students United with NASA to Create Hardware) program. These projects include designing parts for astronaut training simulators for the International Space Station. o Students work with aerospace companies in research and design projects to develop Engineering Development Units for other unique projects. INTRO TO DRAFTING DESIGN This course is designed to provide students with instruction and experiences in computer-aided drafting (CAD) functions and techniques using CAD software applications.
