Quantitative Determination of Soda Ash Composition by Double Indicator Titration

This document describes the quantitative determination of soda ash composition using double indicator titration. Sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) standards were used to standardize hydrochloric acid. A soda ash sample was then titrated against the standardized HCl using phenolphthalein and methyl orange indicators. The volumes at each endpoint were used to calculate that the sample composition was 21.35% Na2CO3 and 29.20% NaHCO3, with error propagation analyses included.
