Statement of The Problem - Sample

The document proposes implementing a music program at Ecole Secondaire Lavoie high school to address the lack of musical opportunities. It identifies 4 potential solutions: 1) teaching musical instruments, 2) exposing students to different genres and instruments, 3) starting a band or choir, or 4) extracurricular music instruction. The benefits would include increased enrollment, improved student grades and reduced dropout rates due to music's positive effects on the brain.

Subject: Implementing a musical program in high school
As part of my future proposal, I have been working on identifying a problem that in which I
could help fix. Thus, I have come up with several topics and have narrowed it all down to my old
high school, Ecole Secondaire Lavoie and the lack of a fully established music program in the
school.
What is wrong or lacking?
The school does not offer activities to the students that will help them learn music and
expand their knowledge in the field through the use of musical instrument, voice, and general
exposure. It has been shown that doing so can enhance the brain of high schoolers and give them
more chance to succeed.
What are some possible directions for solutions?
There are a few options available:
1- Implement a program designed to teach a certain musical instrument to students in the
school
2- Implement a program that exposes the students to a wide range of musical genre as well
as musical instrument.
3- Create a school band or choir that focuses on teaching useful skills to the students
4- Implement an extra-curricular centered on providing a musical instruction to the students.
Who/What will benefit from the solution?
Implementing any or all of the previous possibilities will result in many benefits for the
school itself as well as its administration:
1- There will be more exposure, and therefore more enrollment.
2- Music having a good impact on the brain will reflect on the students grade and the
institutions effectiveness at providing a good education.
3- For the same reason as before, the dropout rate would diminish as well.
4- Studies have shown that engaging in musical activities improves the mood, which in
students means that the school will have a solid tool of promotion in hand.
In conclusion, my topic will pertain on the possibility of providing possibilities for the high
schoolers to gain an invaluable exposure to music while pursuing studies and also gaining
knowledge.
