Ventilation Calculation For Generators Room

This document provides a ventilation calculation for a generators room. It calculates the required airflow and number of supply and exhaust fans needed based on the heat dissipated by 7 generators in the room. The calculation determines that 315,000 CFM of supply air is needed, which can be provided by 7 fans each supplying 45,000 CFM. It also determines that 222,500 CFM of exhaust is required, which can be provided by 7 exhaust fans each at 32,000 CFM. The pressure drops for the supply and exhaust fans are also calculated.

VENTILATION CALCULATION FOR GENERATORS ROOM

Calculation Input Data:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

7 No. of generators.
Outside Air temperature is 46 C.
Accepted inside Air temperature is 55 C (attachment #1).
The heat dissipated for each genset is 228 KW (attachment #2).
Total volume of the room is 9600 m3 = 339000 ft3.
Required Air for Combustion is 8714 cfm for each genset (attachment
#3).

Ventilation Calculation
Heat to be removed

= 1.08 x CFM x T(F).

Heat to be removed

= 228 KW x 7 No.
= 1596 KW
= 5450000 BTUH.

= 55 C 46 C
= 9 C
= 16 F

CFM

1.08 x 16

= 315000 cfm

We will use 7 No. of supply fans

We will use the same number of fans for exhaust fan.

Flow rate for each exhaust fan
= Total Supply Air Required Air Combustion 10% of Supply Air.
= 315000 61000 31500
= 222500 cfm.
Extra 10% in-order to keep the generators room in positive pressure.
Flow rate for each exhaust fan
= 222500 7
= 32000 cfm
Each supply & Exhaust fan will be combined to one generator.

Calculation the Pressure Drop

A. Supply Fan
Required flow rate is 45000 cfm
Recommended face Velocity ie., 400 fpm
1. Pressure drop through Sand Trap Louver
= 0.75 inches w.g.
2. Pressure drop through duct
= 0.5 inches w.g.
3. Regarding Residual pressure at the outlet
= 0.75 inches w.g.
Total Pressure drop is

= 0.75 + 0.5 + 1
= 2.25 x 1.1
= 2.5 inches w.g.

B. Exhaust Fan
Required flow rate is 32000 cfm
1. Duct losses
= 0.5 inches w.g.

2. Wire mesh losses

= 0.1 inches w.g.
Total 0.6 for safety
= 0.6 x 1.1
= 1 inches w.g.

2) Using 60 ACH

= 244100 cfm
= 35000 cfm each fan.
