CHEER

FOR A

History
Cheer For A Cure originated in 2008, the inspiration
of a local high school cheerleader, Alex Iorio, for her
senior project in honor of her mother, Kim Iorio, who
is now a 13-year breast cancer survivor.
We decided to make this an annual event due to
our passion for supporting this important cause as
well as the enthusiasm and interest from our community and beyond.
In our first year we had 11 squads participate,
and we now average between 20 and 30 squads.
We have teams that travel over 2 hours to attend.
This makes us really excited as we know our event
and overall mission are reaching areas we never
thought possible.
Since we have doubled in size over the course of
6 years and have had over 1,000 spectators and
participants attend, we actually outgrew our original
facility and have since moved here to Westminster
College.
Our goal is to educate the community and empower individuals to make real differences in the
lives of women and men battling breast cancer. We
stress to those in attendance to remember the reason why we are all here. It is our hope that every
person, participant or spectator who walks away
from our event feels like they made a difference.
We started 7 years ago with the mindset that this
would be a one-time event, but with each year we
gain more and more support. We have an army of
incredible and devoted individuals who help us in
our fight. We all truly put our hearts and souls into
this event.
All proceeds from today will be given to the American Cancer Societys Making Strides Against Breast
Cancer. Last year, we donated $28,000 and this
year we hope to contribute even more.
