About Stacks

Stacks in Mac OS X Snow Leopard allow files and applications to be grouped together and accessed directly from the Dock. Stacks can be created by dragging folders onto the Dock and will display their contents in a fan or grid. Files within stacks can be organized and accessed with a single click. The Documents, Downloads, and Applications stacks are included as default locations for keeping files like presentations, spreadsheets, and downloaded documents.

Stacks automatically display their contents in a fan or a


grid based on the number of items in the stack. You

The Dock in Snow Leopard


includes Stacks, which
you can use to quickly

the Dock.
Stacks are simple to create. Just drag any folder to
the right side of the Dock and it becomes a stack.
Click a stack and it springs from the Dock in either

or you can set the sort order so that the items you care
about most always appear at the top of the stack. To

icon and hold down the mouse button until a menu
appears. Choose the settings you want from the menu.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard includes three premade


stacks called Documents, Downloads, and

stack. The Documents stack is a great place to keep
things like presentations, spreadsheets, and word
