FORM
When we speak of past progressive refer to
actions or situations that were in process in the
past. These actions or situations were temporary,
interrupted or incomplete.

The grammatical structure is


as follows:

Subject + was / were + verb ending in ing.


examples:
I was swimming at 11:15 this morning.
We was swimming at 11:15 this morning.
I was swimming at 11:15 this morning.

AFIRMATIVE
Subject + was / were + verb ending in ing.
Examples:
We were taking a test this time two days ago.
I was swimming at 11:15 this morning.

NEGATIVE
Subject + was not / were not + verb ending in ing.
Examples:
People were not sleeping when the earthquake hit
Santiago.
At 4:00 I was helping Susan move the furniture.
The phone rang while we were watching
television.

QUESTIONS
Was/Were + sujeto + verbo terminado en ing.?
Examples:
Were you watching TV at 9:00 last night?
Was Cecilia having breakfast yesterday morning?

USE 1
The past progressive refers to activities that may
not be over. If the activity ended, then used the
past simple.
Examples:
I was writing a letter to my sister.
I wrote a letter to my sister.

USE 2
The past progressive is used to describe a
situation.
example:
It was a beatiful day. The sun was shining and the
birds singing Were.

USE 3
The past progressive is not normally used to talk
about actions lasted a few seconds.
example:
Lionel Messi kicked the ball. (The action of kicking
only lasted a moment)

USE 3
Certain verbs like: be, believe, belong, cost, know,
seem, very rarely used with the ending ing.
example:
Hugo's wife Seemed to be very angry When I
arrived home.
