What is Mutawatir?

= successive
A successive narration conveyed by
numerous narrators that they cannot
be expected to agree upon a lie, all
of them together

CONDITIONS OF MUTAWATIR
HADITH
1) At least four different people must
have narrated the hadith.
2) Must be impossible for those four
people to concur a lie.
3) The narration of hadith must be rely
on the mind and senses.

VERBAL RECURRENT
( Mutawatir al-Lafzi )

A hadith that all the narrators are


unanimous in reporting a hadith with
the same words in all different chains

Example :

Prophet Muhammad said ,


One who lies about me deliberately
must prepare himself a seat in the
hellfire

CONCEPTUAL RECURRENT
( Mutawatir al-Manawi )

A hadith which is reported by multiple


narrators without using the same
words but convey the same
meaning.

Example :
A large number of narrators reported
that :
Muhammad enjoined Muslims to
perform two ra'kat in Fajr, four ra'kat in
Dhuhr, Asr and Esha and three ra'kat
in the Maghrib prayer, yet the
narrations of all the reporters who
reported the number of ra'kat are not
in the same words.
