Florence O. Williams
I remember being a little girl and watching shows like The Jetsons and being
amazed of what the future could really bring. With a robot maid and flying cars, I just
knew that in the 2000s would bring the most far-reaching technology that would help
make our lives easier. Although, Rosie the robot maid, is not available to wash the
dishes and clean the house, technology has truly changed our lives mostly for the
better. Technology of the 21st Century has brought us the smallest, slimmest, lightest
weight, and fastest versions of devices than in previous years. When you think about it
the average teenager knows does not know life without a cell phone. This generation
was born into the technology age and it has totally affected the way they learn and live.
Before teaching, technology was a way of entertainment. Of course, it was used
in my everyday work life as a means of productivity but that was the extent of it. Now as
a classroom teacher, I use technology in a number of ways. I have to use technology in
a more advanced way that before. I teach middle school students Business Education.
Therefore, I have to teach them basic computer skills as well as netiquette and positive
technological engagement. Basic paper and pencil does not work anymore. Students
get bored very easily. Therefore, teachers have to find innovative ways to teach. That
is where technology plays a huge role. The recommended readings were exceptionally
helpful. It was great to examine how other schools are utilizing technology in their
classrooms for all learning purposes both academic and behavioral.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my views on technology have not changed but more so have been
expanded. I can use technology to ensure all types of learners get the full experience in
my classroom. Using Google Docs as a means for sharing documents or Bring your
own Device to help students become proficient at effectively using their devices for
more than talk and text. Technology in education has thoroughly evolved and will
continue to be a force in the future. I guess we will have a Rosie the robot teaching
our classes sooner than we think.
