This lesson ties in colors but also reading the words of the colors.

Learning Objectives (2 or more):


1. The children will be able to listen to me read the book and correspond with the
different color stick with the different color chameleon.
2.

The children will be able to see the word of the color and the stick of the same
color and begin to match them up.

Materials:
Shoe Box
Sticks-colored assorted colors
Pictures of Chameleons like in story

Procedure:
I will begin by reading a book and talking about how the lizard changes colors when he
sits on different things. I will then introduce the sticks and ask the child to sort the sticks
with the corresponding color and word.

Extension Activity:
I will provide a piece of paper and crayons for the child to draw his own chameleon.

attention?

I will ask the child if she has ever seen a lizard that changes colors. I will then ask her to
sit with me and read a book about one lizard that changed colors and found a friend that
did too.

conduct this activity/experience?

I will ask the child about how she thought the chameleon felt during the story and
questions like have you ever felt like you wanted to change colors. I will ask questions to
spark conversation.

Closure: How will you know its time to end your activity?

I will end the activity by having the child put the decorated box by the manipulatives
table so others can play with it too.

4.

Transition: How will you prepare the children psychologically or physically for
what will occur next?

I will have the children transition to the next activity by using self-help skills of cleaning
up and we will walk together back to the group.

Developmental Variations: What modifications will you make for an


individual(s) or group(s)?

I would have bigger sticks for the children that have trouble holding the tiny sticks. I
would also make the different colored slots more apparent.
