Carroll University offers direct admission to its physical therapy and nursing programs, an uncommon opportunity that allows incoming freshman to be admitted directly into the programs of their choice. The physical therapy program has a high graduation rate between 85.7-97.9% from 2011-2014 and places 100% of graduates in jobs. Nursing is a 4-year degree while physical therapy is 6 years. Both programs have rigorous academic standards that must be maintained, such as a minimum 3.0 GPA, in order to remain in the programs.

Thetermdirectadmissionnowadayishardtocomeby.Mostuniversitieshavean
overwhelmingamountofstudentsthatapplytoamultitudeofcollegeseveryyear.Thereisnosurprise
thatallofthosestudentswillnotbeabletobedirectadmittedintotheirprogramofchoicetheirfirstyear.
Usually,studentswillhavetowaituntiltheendoftheirsophomoreyeartoapplyorinsomecasestheir
senioryear.CarrollUniversityisoneofthefewuniversitiesthatofferdirectadmissiontoincoming
physicaltherapyandnursingstudents.

From20112014CarrollUniversitiesphysicaltherapygraduationratewasextremelysuccessful.
Rangingfrom85.7%to97.9%alongwitha100%graduationratein

facultyonstaff,thewealthofknowledgelearnedfromthevarious
classesoffered,andthethreeinternshipsstudentsarerequiredtotaketo

Oncedirectadmittedintothephysicaltherapyprogramthereare
requirementsthatneedtobemettostayintheprogram.Thefirstoneis
studentsneedtokeepaminimumofa3.0cumulativeGPAper
semester.Ifastudentfallsbelowthe3.0GPArequirementsthestudent
isputonprobationifthestudentdoesnotachievea3.0thefollowing
semestertheyarekickedoutoftheprogram.Astudentwhoendsup
withaDinanyoftheirclassesareimmediatelyremovedfromthe
programaswellstates,Wilbanks.ThoughtheCarrollUniversity
physicaltherapyprogramisademandingmajor,inthelongrunthe
opportunitiesareendlessandjobplacementhasahighsuccessfulrate.In2011and2013thephysical
therapygraduatingclasseshad100%jobplacementandin2012a95%jobplacementrate.
Thephysicaltherapyandnursingdepartmenthavenumeroussimilaritiesregardingcurriculum,
requirements,andsuccessionratetherearesomedifferencesbetweenthemaswell.Accordingto
Carrollu.edu,tobedirectadmittedintothenursingprogramastudenthastocompletealgebraII,biology,
andchemistryreceivingaCorbetter.Theyalsohavetohaveacumulative2.75GPAandreceiveatleast
a21ontheACT.Ifastudentdoesntgetdirectlyadmittedintothenursingprogramtheywillbeplaced
onthedelayedadmissionandwillhavetofulfillthedelayedadmissionrequirementstothenbeadmitted
intothenursingprogram.ThenursingmajorofferedatCarrollUniversityisintotalafouryeardegree
unlikephysicaltherapythatisasixyeardegree.Onceanursingstudenthascompletedandreceivedtheir
BSNinnursingtheygoontotakeatestcalledtheNCLEXtobecomeanofficialregisterednurse.In

physicaltherapystudentsarerequiredtotakethenationaltesttomakethemeligibletopracticephysical
therapyinanyofthe50states.

Thelastmaindifferencebetweenphysicaltherapyandnursingmajorsisthatphysicaltherapystudents
arerequiredtotakethreeinternshipsthatarerequiredtograduate.Thefirsttwointernshipsarecalled
teachinglearningpractical(TLP).Studentstakeonthesetwointernshipswhilestillengagingintheir
normalcourseload.
Thethirdinternshipismultiweekandstudentsdonottakeonafullcourseloadwhiletheyareinthe
midstofthemultiweekinternship.Nursingstudentsdonottakeonaninternshipinsteadtheyworkin
nursingclinicalduringtheirfouryearexperienceatCarrollUniversity.Throughthenursingclinical,
studentswilllearncriticalskillsthatwilllaterbeappliedasacertifiednurse.Clinicalarealsoinalmost
allsettingsavailabletonursing.Studentsworkalongsidetheirprofessortolearnamultitudeofskillsand
thenwillbetestedontheknowledgeofskillstheylearned.
AsCarrollUniversitygrowsinsizeeveryyearthemorestudentswhowanttogetdirectadmitted
intothephysicaltherapyandnursingschoolsgrowsaswell.Wilbanks,statesshedoesntthinkCarroll
Universitywillcutoffthedirectadmitprogramalltogetherbutinsteadtherequirementstobedirect
admittedintotheprogramcouldberaisedsothatitismoredifficultforastudenttogetintoeitheroneof
thedepartments.Overall,CarrollUniversityhasaprestigiousphysicaltherapyandnursingprogramthat
demandshardwork,dedication,andadrivetosucceed.Ifstudentschoosetodeclareaphysicaltherapyor
nursingmajoratCarrollUniversitytheroadaheadofthemaftergraduationlooksbrightduetothe
