Document 1

The document discusses the BBFC rating system and how a thriller film would fit within the 12A rating guidelines. Specifically: - The BBFC is responsible for film ratings in the UK and the author's target audience is 12-18 years old due to explicit content and dark themes. - The 12A rating allows for moderate language, brief nudity, implied sexual activity, moderate violence without blood/gore details, and no glamorization of drugs. - The author's film would fit under the 12A rating as it contains some mild swearing but no drugs, nudity or graphic violence. Sexual activity is implied but not shown.

BBFC

The BBFC are the organisation that is responsible for the rating of films. The Target
audience for my film is 12-18, this is because the content of it is too explicit for
people under the age of 12 also it is quite a dark film which isn't good for people that
age. The reason why it stops at the age of 18 is because this thriller film is about a
girl who is around the age of 16 who is coming home from school, and Past the age
of 18 people either have cars or they go university which prevents this issue of
happening so they wouldn't part of my target audience.
People that like this film would also be interested in thriller films like the lovely bones
because it is a fairly similar in message based but the way it is portrayed is very
different to the actual film. Another film that they would like is law abiding citizen; this
is because of the dark atmosphere throughout the film. I used this element because
of the ay the camera shots where when the antagonist when into the town hall and
the angles he used to show his face but also show that he wasnt meant to be there,
in other words showing he is an intruder.
Through BBFC the target audience I used would fall under the 12A. and the
condition 12A has is:

Drugs
Misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or give
instructional detail. Imitable behaviour no promotion of potentially dangerous
behaviour which children are likely to copy. No glamorisation of realistic or easily
accessible weapons such as knives. No endorsement of anti-social behaviour.

Language
There may be moderate language. Strong language may be permitted, depending on
the manner in which it is used, who is using the language, its frequency within the
work as a whole and any special contextual justification.

Nudity
There may be nudity, but in a sexual context it must be brief and discreet.

Sex
Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed. Moderate sex references are
permitted, but frequent crude references are unlikely to be acceptable.

Threat
There may be moderate physical and psychological threat and horror sequences.
Although some scenes may be disturbing, the overall tone should not be.
Horror sequences should not be frequent or sustained.

Violence
There may be moderate violence but it should not dwell on detail.
There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional
gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context. Sexual
violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated, and
its depiction must be justified by context

%20Classification%20Guidelines%202014_2.pdf
Compared to the BBFC guidelines my film fits into all of them because my film has
no drugs let alone there being a misuse of drugs so that department doesnt apply
with my film. In the opening sequence there isnt any foul language but throughout
the film there may be in the odd occasion but it wouldnt be anything explicit it would
just be S**t. There is no nudity in my film. There is no sexual activity in this film that
is shown to the audience but there is a scene where it is inferred. Since it isnt seen it
does fall into this category. The threat is strong but it isnt very physical because it in
this film the stalker uses chloroform to take out its targets so that causes the victims
to not struggle. Only in the opening sequence we hear the victim. The violence is
there but it isnt too strong not anything stronger than Batman Dark Knight so it
should pass.
