Webquest

This document outlines a lesson plan for a webquest on archaeology at Jamestown. Students will use various websites to learn about archaeology, what it is, the tools used, and how archaeologists have discovered new artifacts at Jamestown and Wereowocomoco. The lesson includes introducing archaeology, having students complete a worksheet with questions as they explore different websites, watching videos on current digs at Jamestown, and playing educational games about Jamestown archaeology. To assess learning, students will write a paragraph describing what they learned and their favorite artifact.

Title: Jamestowne and Archeology Webquest

Virginia SOL:
VS.1 a- identify and interpret artifacts and primary and secondary source
documents to understand events in history.
VS.2 f- describing how archaeologists have recovered new material
evidence at sites including Wereowocomoco and Jamestowne.
Objective: T.S.W. describe and analyze what archeology is and how it pertains to
Jamestown.
Sequence:
I will begin the lesson by introducing the assignment. I will let the students
know that they will have 45 minutes to complete the assignment. Once they
complete the assignment we will gather for a class discussion on what they have
learned. Before we go to the computer lab to start the Webquest, I will brainstorm
with the students on what they think archeology might be (I will break down the
word so they might understand it better). After we arrive in the computer lab I will
hand out the worksheet. The worksheet will contain the web pages needed for
each section.
*The Worksheet will be displayed on the next page*
Assessment: Students will write a paragraph on what they have learned and
describe their favorite artifact they learned about.
