Instant Activity: Students will be grouped
in 2s, 3s or 4s. They will find an area and
spread out so they can throw the frisbee
to each other to practice.

Set Induction:
Today we will play ultimate frisbee. Using
what we learned this week throwing,
catching, offensive, and defensive
strategies I want everyone to utilize
those skills while we play.

Purpose:
Frisbee is a non-traditional sport and its

important for students to learn because
sometimes, traditional sports equipment
wont be available and something
different can be eye-opening.
1 min. Transition
Students will be handed colored pennies
which will indicate the team they are on.
They will situate to the side their team is
on.

10 min. Lesson Core - Task 1:
Ultimate frisbee Boundaries are set
around the basketball court. There will be
2 endzones on opposing sides. Team 1 will
start on one side and Team 2 will start on
the other. First possession of the game
will be determined by the instructor.
Once a team claims possession, their goal
is to reach the opposite end zone to score
a point. There is no running/walking with
the frisbee. Whoever doesnt have the
frisbee can freely move in the dedicated
space. Offensive team must move around
to get open so the thrower can pass it
with the least amount of defense. The
other team, or defensive side, must
prevent the offensive team from scoring.
There are a few ways: catching the frisbee
in mid-air or knocking it away from
opponent. Defense cannot take the
frisbee away while an offensive player is
holding on to it. Defense cannot guard the
frisbee thrower but can guard the other
offensive players. There shouldnt be any
touching/pushing in this game. Once the
frisbee is on the ground, its the other

teams possession. A different thrower is
chosen at each start of a possession
because that gives everyone a chance to
throw.

Demonstration Plan:
I will demonstrate frisbee throwing to a
student with a defender. First the
offensive player will catch it. In the
second demo, the defensive player will
smack it out of the way or catch it to
indicate a loss of possession by the
offensive team.

Questions to Check Understanding
Can you run with the frisbee? No.
Can a defender guard the offensive
player? Only the non-thrower.

Adaptations
Regression: One who holds the frisbee
can take 3 steps
Progression: Defenders can guard the
thrower

Transition
After the activity, students will sit at
homebase and wait for further
instructions.

Closure
I will review offensive and defensive
strategies with the students. After, I will
introduce the next unit: basketball.
