Philosophy Statement

King outlines her philosophy of education which draws from Perennialism and Essentialism. She wants students to have everlasting experiences and learn core subjects like reading, writing, math, and history. As a teacher, she will be devoted, disciplined, and a role model, treating all students equally. The teacher's role is to provide organized lessons while the student's role is to come prepared, participate, and work hard through practice and repetition. Both teachers and students will have positive attitudes and treat each other with respect while working as a team to achieve academic potential.

Philosophy Statement
I find myself most drawn to Perennialism I want the experience in the classroom and
ideas to be everlasting to the students something they will always remember. According to Pratt
(2005) every teacher has their own philosophy of what matters most to them or what they feel
most passionate about. A teachers philosophy shows a deeper understanding of what the teacher
expects from themselves as well as what they expect from their students, along with a preferred
teaching/ learning style for their students.(pg.32)
As a teacher I take my work very seriously. I expect the same from the students I will
teach the students to be a devoted and disciplined in their studies. I want them to know that what
they learn at school has a huge impact in their future success. The information the student
receives needs to be correct and up to date so they can accurately process the information. I
would use this philosophy along with Essentialism. I am realist I want the truth, I want facts, I
want solutions to problems, give me laws and principles. I have a great passion and love for the
core curriculum I think its great to have a well-balanced curriculum similar to a diet. There
needs to be a balance of Reading, Writing, Spelling, Math, History, Art, etc I want the students
to think deeply, analytically, and imaginatively.
The teachers role is to provide organized thoughts and lessons for the class, the teacher
is to introduce the core curriculum to the class. The teacher provides a syllabus and sets the
atmosphere for the classroom with rules that are expected to be followed. The teacher help to

make the classroom warm welcoming and inviting to the students. The teacher assess each
students progress in the class and reflects on improvements that need to be made. The teacher is
sets an example and is a role model that dresses professional and uses proper language and
behavior and treats all students equally.
The students role is to come to class prepared this means well rested and fed, so theyre
not tired or hungry in class. The student needs to make sure they are following the syllabus, that
they have their textbooks for the class and or homework folders. The student is expected to be
actively listening taking notes sitting in class where they can best see or hear the teacher. The
student is expected to participate in classroom activities, class discussion, homework
assignments, and practice, study with repetition that is necessary for learning and taking tests.
Both teachers and students will have an optimistic positive attitude about our dedication
to learning and education. Both teachers and students will treat everyone equally and with the
upmost respect that everyone deserves. Both teachers and students will all work as a team to
achieve our highest academic potential.
