Transcription Factors: A2 Biology Topic 7

Transcription factors are proteins that bind to DNA at promoter regions and regulate the initiation of transcription. They work by either activating or repressing gene expression. Transcription factors form transcription initiation complexes that recruit RNA polymerase to start transcription. Some factors are present constitutively in cells while others are activated at specific developmental stages or in response to hormones and growth factors.
