Piagets Task Observation Form 2

The document describes an assignment to conduct three of Piaget's experiments testing logical thinking skills on children in different stages of cognitive development. Students are instructed to select two children, one aged 4-7 and one aged 7-11, obtain permission, prepare materials and procedures for three experiments, conduct the experiments while recording the children's responses, and fill out reports describing the basic procedures and children's responses to signify their stage of cognitive development.

Piaget: Observing Childrens Thinking Skills

Name: Hessa Ahmed Ali

Date: ..
Piaget designed many tasks to test childrens logical thinking. http://
www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRF27F2bn-A
For this activity, do each of the following:
1. Select three of Piagets Tasks for Logical thinking (from the handout or from the video we watched).
2. Collect the materials you will need, write the procedure and the
English you will need on the attached forms Preparing for Piagets
Experiments
(one for each experiment=3 forms). Practice giving the tests FIRST.
3. Select two children:
One should be in the pre-operational stage (ages2-7). It is
best if you choose one in the middle about four years old.
The other should be in the concrete operational stage (age 7
-11)
Be sure to get permission from the childs parent before doing
the task!
4. Set up the video and perform the tasks. Use the video later to fill in
your reports. You will fill in 3 reports for each child (attached). 6
reports total!
5. Think about how you will also get some pictures. Maybe you can ask
a member of your family to take a couple of still photos.

Piaget: Observing Childrens Thinking Skills

Keep in mind: Remember this is a scientific experiment! You must be

scientific and do the experiments properly. If you do not, your results
may not be accurate.
Be sure not to tell the child, You are right! or You are wrong!,
because there is no right or wrong. We are just trying to find out if
Piagets theory about cognitive development is correct.
Take pictures of your set up and of the children performing the tasks. DO
not take a picture of any faces! Just from behind or above.

The mount of the Juice.

Materials Needed

Juice , 2 glass with the same size and 1 different

size.

Exact words I will say:

What I will do when I say these

words:

Can you look at these two

look to them and listen to their

answer.

Name of experiment 1 The mount of the Juice.

Describe the basic procedure of the task
1- Show him the mount of the juice.
2- Compare between the mount of the juice in the different
size of glasses.
3- give reason why did he choose that one.
Describe the childs responses
He understand that the juice are the same in the different size
of glasses because the mount of the juice did not change only
the form is change and because it is a liquid.
What do the childs responses signify?
He understand the experiment and he is in concrete operational
stage.

tallest one he choose it because he think the mount of juice
depend in to the size of the glass.
What do the childs responses signify?
He understand the experiment but he did not answer correctly
so he is in pre-operational stage.
