Magic Square Project

The document describes how to create a magic square using the numbers 4 through 12. It explains that the magic number is 24, meaning the sums of all rows, columns and diagonals will add up to 24. It then lists the 8 combinations that show each row, column and diagonal summing to 24 and includes some additional notes about patterns in the combinations.

MAGIC SQUARE PROJECT

The numbers to be used are:

(4-12)

4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12
Add the last number and the first number and then multiply by 9 because
that is how many numbers were using. Divide by two and you get the sum of
these numbers. The sum of these numbers is 72. Divide by 3 and the magic
number is 24.
That means that all columns, rows and diagonals will add to 24.
The eight combinations are:
12 + 8 + 4 = 24
12 + 7 + 5 = 24
11 + 9 + 4 = 24
11 + 8 + 5 = 24
11 + 7 + 6 = 24
10 + 9 + 5 = 24
10 + 8 + 6 = 24
9 + 8 + 7 = 24

largest # added to the smallest # and the

difference supplies the middle #. Then the
next largest number and smallest number and
so on. It is a pattern and follows for any series
of 9 numbers chosen for a 3x3 matrix.
